Faith (Trust and Loyalty)
not merely agreeing with truth, but entrusting ourselves fully to God in a restored relationship. Faith is relational at its core. It is the deliberate return of our trust and loyalty to the One we had abandoned. Where unfaithfulness once defined us, faith is now the restoration of that broken loyalty.
This is a transfer of trust—from ourselves and the world as our source, to God alone as our source of life. It is not partial or conditional; it is the surrender of our will to His will.
Jesus makes this unmistakable:
“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:27, NASB 95)
Faith is not passive belief—it is the yielding of our life to God. It is saying yes to Him as our rightful Lord. It is choosing Him over every competing loyalty—not as a way to earn life, but because we have come to trust Him as the only true source of life.
This is why Jesus tells us to count the cost:
“So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.” (Luke 14:33, NASB 95)
Faith is not an addition to our life—it is a complete transfer of allegiance. It is not a work we perform, but a surrender we make in response to grace.
And this faith is not lived out alone. To entrust ourselves to God is to entrust ourselves to His way of life, which includes walking with others. True faith expresses itself in shared life—loving, serving, and laying down our lives for one another as members of one body under Christ.
